State Fair Week

What does one do when spending day after day night after night at a local state fair?

Well in between first I was saved by Zonda her leftover sock yarn to I could actually knit 3 rows and graft the toe on a sock and finally another finished pair! Thank you so much for being so kind!!

so first spun some mystery wool and opps forgot to clear off that bobbin didn't I...lol

then worked on this pink linen/rayon stuff spun & plied

next up I started another bobbin with this merino from Yarn Botanika in Cape Cod Colorway

then another bobbin with brwon sheep , ohhh love this stuff spun up.. The colors are great!

Ok I missed out on getting alot of stuff in on time this year but did get a couple skeins and a needle feted novelty item in.. Received 2 1st place and 1 3rd...
This is the last weekend for this fair. Going back this afternoon for the day/night with the Oak Ridge Boys playing across the way from the spinning/weaving makes for the night to go faster....

Final Package OSSP

Well it's been fun with the Interweave Press One Skin Secret Pal over the summer. Sad to see it come to an end.. I had so much fun with my downline SP Leslie (whose blogless) and my upline Jane(also blogless) whose been so much fun. I love her packages! She lives in KS and works at a LYS too! She's been so thoughtful and spoiling me all summer, first with the skein of Plymouth Yarn Posh, ohh so soft and I've never seen or heard of it, great introduction and even an awesome suggestion of using it to make a cowl, along with her small felted box which has been getting lots of use. Then her second package that not only included a skein of STR yarn but also their sock book too!!! Truly very generous & amazing and she seems to know me so well, when her package arrived at my door I was actually checking out with BMFA shopping cart for the book, she must be a mind reader or something. Everything all individually wrapped in different color tissue paper.. So much fun opening her packages...
Now she's finally reveals herself with this large sized box of goodies from KS!

this is everything, sock yarn, cable footies, KS BBQ sauce regular & spicy, honey roasted sunflower nuts, stick notes, book mark on the back "Common Sunflower This handy annual can reach 12-25 feet in height, crowned with a flower up to 18 inches across. The state flower of Kansas, the common sunflower is native to the western prairies of North America. The sunflower blooms from June to September and it's flowers track the sun from east to west daily." beautifully made stitch markers in tin, handmade soap, lemon tea cookies and sunflower nut shaped chocolate pieces.

here's goodies from Kansas

Really neat stitch markers and not heavy at all.

the cable footies from the One Skein Book love the shade but not sure the yarn? Maybe LL?

ohhh the Austermann Step sock yarn with aloe/jojoba oil, great colorway too I just signed up for Greys KAL yesterday before her package arrived..

How bizarre was wondering what I was going to make for the KAL and in grey too..I hoep this will work for a grey.. I think so.. Perfectly!
and she kid the lavender soap in-betweenthe label & yarn..
Wish I could smell....
had another check up this morning with the DR and my nose is till full of scabs, crust, blood, etc. Slowly healing and he could see some clearing...YEAH

GREAT PACKAGE JANE! Lovely items Thank you you've been so much fun! Hope your SP has been as good to you! Keep in touch!

State Fair Spinning Bee!

Our State Fair Spinning Bee can you believe it, I took home 2nd prize for the most yardage spun in 45 minutes a Whooping 94 yards! Monica (blogless) took 1st for 98 yards

and not all 1st place on spindling for 15 minutes for the most yardage too. Didn't get the yardage on this but we tie onto a poll and walk backwards until yarn breaks to see who has the longest.. I haven't done much spindling in the past couple years let alone spindling in public either! It was alot of fun and I got a little better when the fiddler played fast too....at least the momento not the yarn....lol Monica took 2nd prize

my 6 y/o daughter Katie came with me this year and did some spindling, these are a couple photos the newpapers photographer took she emailed them to me this morning..That'd be me sitting behind her, you can see the heel of my birks with my prized socks...

she's so excited that she'll be in the papers. can wait for the edition to come put to pick up a few copies....

She won some fiber too for her attempt..I didn't register her to participate not yet... A couple years I think. She loves the Babe Wheels I'm thinking of getting her one within a couple years who knows maybe sooner. the Pinkie is cute

Barnstable County Fair is Over & very Nice Packages!

Spent the weekend at the Country Fair on Cape Cod It was a little hot but had lots of fun listen to Grass Roots they where big in the 70s. Can you believe this singer can't remember his name but he's 62 years old and nice looking man for his age too, has so much energy on the stage and with the crowds!

I missed the spinning bee on Thursday but heard it was a success!
First time since I started spinning that I entered anything to the fair and it was on a whim.. Totally unprepared and had no book with info enter 9 items I had no idea...lol anyway I came home with 8 ribbons/prizes..which I never expected to place any ribbons in any catagory knowing the competition too!

here's some of my spun items from different categories

here's some commercially yarn knitted things

and the fair if sending a check in the mail too..YEAH!!

I'll have to prepare myself and get all the info for next year, some judges left comments which were nice.. Like tie skein with same color ties...opps! Who knew...LOL
I still placed a ribbon..to my suprise too! Never expected anything let alone some in the top 3!!
Total
2 1st place
2 2nd place
2 3rd place
1 5th place
1 6th place

so 8 out of 9 I was not only shocked but proud anyway! lol Had no clue what I was doing or what to do, someone helped by picking up some of my things and running quickly. Very spur of the moment on a whim.........The kids are very happy to have there items back too... ;o)

After getting home very late last night I found a couple small packages waiting for me a bottle angel from the bottle swap I signed up for a couple months back, my partner flaked out on me then whoever was reassigned flaked out and a very sweet lady stepped up from the group and sent me a GREAT package that looked like this, Great things come in small package too.. Just looksie here!

she sent a DPNS case holder for shorter needles (I needed something like this too, very cleaver!) post it note pads type thing, a couple skeins of self patterned sock yarn & a sample size of Avons hand cream in peach scent

here's a close up of the yarn.....definately my colors too!

Thank you very much Kim it was sweet of you!

and these lovely goodies too!

Also another sweet lady had to step in to replace another flaker from the candy swap. Ming sent me some Japanese candies. Thank you Ming! Also a lovely note!

Those Bake (non melting) chocolate candy goes great with wine! heehee

In the end everything was worked out and in a timely manner.
Thank you ladies!!! Great packages and so much fun!
